Elk Head Canoe is based on a traditional Haida dugout canoe.   It takes a whimsical point of departure with the bow transforming into the head of an elk and a falcon perched on the stern.   This piece explores the idea of time.   The elk looks boldly to the future, the falcon looks thoughtfully over his shoulder to the past and the inviting space between them is the present -- where I'd want to be.
